About

What is a Cubesat?
CubeSat are nanosatellites programmed to perform a specific task. They have been developed for several years, some as student projects to learn the process involved in the development of aerospace technology.

¿What is the mission of the CubeSat we are developing in UVG?
To evaluate and integrate the different systems that make up a CubeSat to develop in Guatemala the skills required for the operation of satellites, while remote sensing elements are validated for using them in future satellites.

Who are involved in the project?
Students, professors and engineers from the Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electronics and Computer Engineering departments of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala.

Why a CubeSat?
Because it is a way of showing that Guatemala has the ability to develop technology for the benefit of our country and scientific community in general.

Phase 1 (2014)



The project begins. Preliminary design of systems and mission definition. At the end of the year, results are presented in the 1st Latinamerican CubeSat Workshop, in Brazil.





Phase 2 (2014-2015)



The first prototype is built.




































Phase 3 (2015-2016)



Iterations: adjustments and modifications to the original design.

UVG anounces in a press conference the development of the CubeSat
Experts from University of Colorado at Boulder, International Academy of Astronautics and JPL review the design of the CubeSat
The team submits an application to the KiboCube opportunity from UNOOSA and JAXA
CubeSat construction begins
