PROFESORADO DE EDUCACIÓN MEDIA ESPECIALIZADA EN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING (ELT)
OBJECTIVES
-To professionally qualify teachers in the field of English Language Teaching.
-To contribute to the process of the teaching and learning of the English language at the secondary level in Guatemala.
-To develop and secure in the graduate the ELT
abilities and skills, general attitudes and habits,
and values that permit him/her to respond with
commitment, conviction, and dedication to the English language needs of the Guatemalan student population.
PROFILE
The ELT Teacher:
-Applies language concepts, structures, and conventions of the English language in the teaching / learning context.
-Creates an effective and efficient ELT learning environment.
-Promotes and enhances students’ English language development based on the processes of first- and second-language acquisition.
-Plans and implements effective classroom instruction using appropriate ELT methods and techniques
-Facilitates the English language student’s learning of academic content, language, and culture.
-Uses assessment results to plan and adapt instruction.
-Facilitates the learner’s English communication and appreciation for his/her own culture.
-Reflects upon and improves instructional practice
by keeping abreast of current instructional techniques, research results, and advances in the field.

Mónica Sulecio de Alvarez. Entré a la Universidad del Valle de Guatemala en 1994 y desde entonces, ser delvalleriana ha tenido una influencia especial y profunda en mi desarrollo profesional, mi estilo de vida y las oportunidades a las que he tenido acceso. Como traductora jurada me inscribí en el Profesorado de Inglés buscando una carrera “afín”. Más que eso, el Profesorado de Inglés, a través de su directora y maravillosos catedráticos, me hizo descubrir mi verdadera vocación: ayudar a otros a aprender. Al cursar la licenciatura, tuve la dicha de formarme con verdaderas mentoras y mentores con quienes aprendí a aprender y también a guiar aprendizajes significativos. Gracias a todo lo que descubrí en mis años de estudiante, hoy puedo orientar el aprendizaje de mis hijos, lo cual nos permite disfrutar de un estilo de vida que nos da mucha libertad para experimentar y crecer en lo que valoramos como familia. Las competencias que he ido fortaleciendo en sus aulas desde 1994 me han permitido participar en proyectos educativos trascendentes y con sentido, que además han contribuido a desarrollar mi pasión por la tecnología educativa. Desde el año 2006 soy parte del claustro de catedráticos de la Universidad. Gracias a la confianza de la Facultad de Educación he tenido la oportunidad de disfrutar la docencia y fortalecer mi vocación. A partir de agosto de 2011 cursaré una maestría en Diseño instruccional y tecnología en Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University con el apoyo del Programa de becas Fulbright para docentes del Gobierno de los Estados Unidos. Viajo con la ilusión de descubrir nuevas formas de usar la tecnología para potenciar aprendizajes y de volver para compartir lo aprendido con mis alumnos y colegas docentes, así como para participar en más proyectos educativos que contribuyan al desarrollo pleno de nuestro país. Ser delvalleriana es un honor y un gran orgullo; es parte de mi identidad y es un estilo de vida que se corresponde con mis creencias y valores.
