Semester
Abroad
UVG is a great place for you to do your Semester Abroad. For a
very accessible price, you can take high quality classes in
Guatemalan Ethnology, History, Archaeology, etc.
Research grants / fellowships
MA & PhD Students from many universities in the world have
chosen UVG as their local partner during their research
activities. Our Department will oficially sponsor your research
if it is ethically & methodologically sound, and if it will
benefit the local communities involved in some way. In exchange
for our institutional support, we ask that you:
Teach a
class or workshop (ad Honorem) to our undergrad students in
any area of Anthropology, Sociology or any other Social
Science
Employ some of our students as research assistants during
your field work
Give a public lecture summarizing your most important
findings
Publish part of your findings in UVG’s Journal
Send a copy of your dissertation / final report to our
library

How about a BA in Anthropology & Sociology?
Study Anthropology & Sociology in one of the most ethnically and
culturally diverse countries of the planet: Guatemala. UVG
offers you a 4 year BA in Anthropology & Sociology or a 5 year Licentiate
(you need to write a supervised thesis for this degree). After
your BA or your Licentiate, you can also take a 2 year MA
program in Development Studies at UVG. For a fraction of what
you would pay for a college in a developed country, you can get
a high-quality degree with an added bonus: field work
experience. All our students have to go through at least 8
months of field work, during which they learn hands-on skills in
social research methods and applying Social Sciences in real development programs in rural Guatemala. Our Professors
are experienced practitioners and trainers in Development and Applied
Anthropology and Sociology.
