Studying at UVG was one of the best experiences of my college career. The students at UVG are so friendly and welcoming they make you feel like you belong there from the first week. I cannot express how terrified I was walking into my first class, not understanding a word because the professor spoke so quickly, and being on the verge of tears by the time the class ended, but my classmates befriended me that very day. They helped me and supported me every day to improve my Spanish, understand the material, have fun and learn. The highlights of my experience were the giras [tours]. Never again will I have the opportunity to forage through Zacapa or Izabal looking for frogs in knee deep mud, nor talk to mayan people face-to-face in Rabinal. I learned more on the giras than I did in the classroom, and they gave me a chance to bond with my classmates, forming lasting friendships. I remain in contact with many of my friends from UVG and greatly miss them.
